Leonor Greyl earned amazing accolades and attention throughout 2019, when you could see our luxe products in action on runways, in fashion shoots, and on red carpets.

The Leonor Greyl family of products earned places of honor on best-of lists, pros’ picks, and celebrity stylist guides. From Elle to Oprah, here’s a look back at this year’s 10 most notable and quotable media mentions…

1. Elle Exclusive: Love Letter to ‘60s Hair in “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood”

Lead hair designer and industry veteran Janine Thompson took Elle on a deep dive into how she created the iconic ‘60s hair styles for Quentin Tarantino’s award-winning “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.”

Janine revealed that after conducting extensive research, she and her team (sometimes up to 40 hairdressers!) relied on Leonor Greyl products and vintage techniques including using orange juice cans as hair rollers to depict glamorous fashion icons like Sharon Tate (played by Margot Robbie) and her bouncy blowout.

“I always end up back with the Leonor Greyl products. I love them. I just really do. They kind of have something for everything you’re trying to create,” said Janine, who has worked on countless titles including “Avengers: Endgame,” “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” “Jumangi,” and “Ant-Man.”

The winner of Best Supporting Product? Mousse au Lotus Volumatrice. “It made such a difference with the bounce. They didn’t have mousse back then. I don’t know how they did it!” Janine told Elle in July.

Janine’s team washed the stars’ tresses with the Shampooing au Miel shampoo, used Masque Fleurs de Jasmin conditioner because it didn’t weigh hair down, and sprayed Voluforme at the roots for lift.

“We used cans and cans and cans of hairspray – the Laque Souple,” Janine said.

For the men, hairstyles ranged from Rick Dalton’s (Leonardo DiCaprio) old guard ‘50s-era pompadour to stuntman character Cliff Booth’s (Brad Pit) casual “let it dry while whipping down the 101 in a convertible” look.

Janine’s team relied on Lait Luminescence Biphase leave-in styling spray, Éclat Naturel nourishing styling cream, and Serum de Soie Sublimateur, infused with silk proteins to smooth hair without weighing it down.
Janine explained: “You could get that shine and you could get it to lay down as if it hadn’t been blow dried, because boys were absolutely not blow drying their hair.”

2. Secrets Behind Best 2019 Oscars Beauty Looks

You know Leonor Greyl will be back on the red carpets during the 2020 award season, but until then let’s revel in the glamourous Hollywood looks created with LG in 2019.

Hairstylist Mara Roszak spoke to Vogue in February about how she designed Emma Stone’s stunning structured and sculptural updo for the 91st Academy Awards.

Nominated for her role in “The Favourite,” the actress stole the spotlight in a custom-made Louis Vuitton gown, embroidered with pearls, sequins, and beads, and featuring exaggerated power shoulders. (Fun fact: It took 712 hours to make!)

Mara created a hairstyle that paired perfectly with the geometric dress – a sleek low bun with jewels also by Louis Vuitton.

Us Weekly broke down exactly how you can recreate the look at home, with Leonor Greyl playing a starring role.

Mara started with Condition Naturelle heat protective styling spray on damp hair, then applied two pumps of Serum de Soie Sublimateur to the ends. It’s fortified with jojoba, wheat germ, and hazel seed oil for shine and to prevent frizz and flyaways. She used a round boar-bristle brush for blow drying.

And while tucking the structured updo into place, Mara made sure she had these favorite products within reach: Voluforme spray for hold without stickiness or stiffness and Éclat Naturel lightweight styling cream to restore life to dry hair.

Mara told Us Weekly that she wishes this product “came in a tub” because of how much she adores it! (LG expert tip: A pearl size amount of Éclat Naturel will do for each hairstyle.)

3. Powerful and Sleek Styling for Natalie Portman

For the cover story and photo feature in Elle’s “Women in Hollywood” issue, Natalie Portman rocked a powerful, swept-back style.

The November article, “Natalie Portman is Done Playing the Manic Pixie Dream Girl,” explores the actress’ evolutionary relationship with Hollywood, including her involvement with the Time’s Up movement.

Mara (again!) created the luminous style, which illustrates Natalie Portman’s intensity with a chic sweep of hair away from her face using only Leonor Greyl products.

4. Beauty Awards: Best Wavy Hair Product

Glamour honored us in March by naming Leonor Greyl to its list of “The 24 Best Wavy-Hair Products of 2019.”

We love being acknowledged for bringing out the best in wavy hair by nurturing soft strands so they are never frizzy and treating scalps so they are never irritated or dry.

Glamour Beauty Awards winners included Huile Apaisante, our soothing treatment for sensitive scalps.

Glamour contributing beauty editor Maureen Choi said, “Every good beauty editor knows that your skin does not stop at your hairline. This the scalp equivalent of an antioxidant serum, which calms redness, soothes dry patches, and repairs your skin barrier with a blend of anti-inflammatory oils. It’s a downright classic for anyone struggling with a tight, irritated scalp.”

5. Pros’ Pick for Best Anti-Frizz Product

In June, Refinery 29 explored which hairstyling product would produce the least frizz. (Our standard is no frizz, by the way.)

Guess which one topped the list?

Beauty influencer and celebrity hairstylist Justine Marjan picked Éclat Naturel styling cream, which features regenerative ingredients like shea butter and jojoba oil. It detangles and conditions as you style it.

“This stuff is a great finishing product for dry hair if the ends look frazzled or if you get a frizz halo around your part or hairline,” Justine said. “I like to use a small amount on my palms, run it through the hair, and go.”

6. Best Hair Oil for Winter-Stressed Tresses

The healing power of beauty oils came into focus in 2019, and Leonor Greyl was on the forefront.

In October, Vogue included Huile Secret de Beauté hair and skin oil on its list of “The 10 Best Hair Oils to Keep Your Hair Healthy Through Winter.”
Vogue noted: “Whether you’re a hopeless Francophile or just want to streamline your routine, Leonor Greyl’s Huile Secret de Beauté blend is the ultimate multi-purpose oil for giving both your body and strands a luminous sheen.”

This product truly was kept a family secret for years.

Originally custom-created for Greyl family vacations to protect skin from drying out after long days outside, Huile Secret de Beauté finally was shared with beauty fans worldwide with a product launch in 2013.

Its super powers come from essential fatty acids and vitamins E and A.

7. Best Hair Masks of 2019

2019 was the year that beauty trends moved on from face masks and into the nurturing world of hair masks.

In an article about the Best Hair Masks of 2019, Forbes included Masque Quintessence, our gold standard of ultra-rich hair masks.

From Forbes: “Between blow-drying and sun exposure, basic daily stresses can take their toll on your hair—and that’s even truer if it’s colored. Give it some love with this natural mask from beloved French brand Leonor Greyl. It contains amaranth extract to nourish and bring shine, mongongo oil to regenerate hair fibers, cupuacu oil for hydration and orchid cactus to condition.”

8. Picky Beauty Editor Likes Us, She Really Likes Us!

InStyle beauty editor Erin Lukas, who admittedly has a complicated relationship with shampoo and has tried a ton, put Bain Volumateur Aux Algues Shampoo on her list of The 5 Best Shampoos in September.

That’s high praise from Erin, who wrote that other shampoos for her thick, dry, color-treated hair continually disappointed her – too slimy, too heavy, full of sulfates, harsh on color.

In walks Bain Volumateur Aux Algues, with moisturizing seaweed extract and wheat proteins to strengthen and protect.

Erin’s review: “Along with whistling and using chopsticks, drying my hair with a round brush is a skill I can’t seem to master. Thankfully, volumizing shampoo exists. Leonor Greyl’s shampoo adds body from root-to-tip while simultaneously moisturizing my hair. It’s also formulated with a detangling effect so you can skip conditioner, which can weigh things down.”

9. Oprah Honors: The Trick for Thicker Hair

We were honored when Oprah Magazine featured Complexe Énergisant, our stimulating leave-in treatment for hair vitality, in an article about “The Best Hair Growth Products That’ll Actually Help With Thickness” in September.

The piece pointed out that we can’t control some things when it comes to hair thinning, like genetics, medical treatment, hormones, and stress. But certain high-quality over-the-counter treatments certainly can help.

Oprah Magazine consulted skin care experts, including dermatologists and trichologists, who made this best-of list. Here’s what they said about Complexe Énergisant:

“This popular leave-in treatment includes hardworking natural ingredients like mimosa bark extract, yeast protein, and agave extract to improve the appearance of thin, fine hair over time. Usage recommendations vary based on the extent of hair loss—for severe cases, use three vials per week for three months; for moderate cases, use one vial per week.”

10. Exclusive: Reality Star’s Major Hair Moment

In November, celebrity hairstylist Bradley Leake gave People an exclusive look at how he created an eye-catching long, swinging ponytail for “Vanderpump Rules” cast member Brittnay Cartwright using Éclat Naturel styling cream.

The Bravo reality star wore a 34-inch long pony (pump’ed up with extensions) to the People’s Choice Awards, complimenting her metallic House of Hadiyah gown.

Bradley explained that he applied Éclat Naturel to add separation through ends.

“We went for a natural wave which is a bit different than her typical beach or glam wave,” he said. “I wanted the vibe to feel effortless yet fashion-forward…”

Leonor Greyl products earned many more mentions and celebrity sightings in 2019 than we’ve listed here, of course. And now we can’t wait to see what 2020 brings. We’ll be sure to keep you in the loop!
